Born, raised and living in Lymington, I started my jewellery career in 2002 at Cross Keys Jewellers. It was during my time working here that I was taught the art of restringing by a fantastic expert restringer and I would make up the Unique Neckwear range designed by the business owner. I soon caught the design bug and designed a number of my own for the shop. After the owners retired and after a few months doing other things, I decided to start designing, making and selling my own jewellery which have sold successfully in a number of shops. I have continued to work within the trade (24 years and counting) working in local independent jewellers, restringing pearls and beads as well as designing and selling along the way.
I've always had an interest in art & being creative... I studied art & design at Basingstoke College of Art, but began a career in hotels, returning to my interest of art & painting, during lockdown, inspired by artist friends in the Netherlands.
My work is quite large scale, in oil paint, on canvas, focusing on themes of the environment, pop culture (a big music fan) and local landscape, in and around Southampton, and the New Forest.
Working in my studio, in the garden, using drawings, sketches & photos I've taken, to produce my paintings.
Interested in capturing reflections right now, hence my painting of the Bookstore window, that made it through to the RA Summer Exhibition.
I specialise in wildlife and the natural world. Trained at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design, my work includes private commissions, card designs, fabric design, murals and artwork for local Council nature reserves. In 2013 I reached the final of the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year competition with my painting of Humboldt Penguins.
I use pencil, acrylics, pastels and watercolours working from my own sketches and photographs. I am lucky to live in the beautiful county of Dorset and on the edge of the New Forest which is an inspiration for my work in plants, animals and landscapes and the occasional Dragon!
We're always looking to expand our collection of local artisans. If you create handmade products in the New Forest or surrounding areas and would like to be featured at Penkey, please get in touch with us.
